Renovations!

Anyone who knows us, knows how enthusiastic we are when it comes to home improvement! We love renovations! So much so, that we have about a thousand ongoing, unfinished projects going on around the house! From gardening, through landscaping, to having ripped our ceilings down. Yes, you read that right – we are in a 1930’s cottage and have decided to bring it back to its former glory, by raising the ceilings back up to their original height!

Funny story about the ceilings! We were going to be sensible and start small – do the corridor first, learn from any possible mistakes. So one day we started – it took all my might to put a hammer into that perfect ceiling, anxious as I was that I am ‘fixing something that ain’t broke’. There were so many doubts running through my head! Then I took a swing and I did it!! We officially ripped our first ceiling down!

Our first mistake to learn from – there is a whole lot of dust up there!!! You’d think we were smarter than that!! Dust masks to the rescue!!

The next day we had one of our amazing mates come over for dinner. He looked at the living room ceiling, and convinced us to let him put a fist through it! (Well, it didn’t really take that much convincing! I mean, what sort of friends would we be if we denied him the pleasure!?) So there went our living room ceiling, and with just enough time to move some furniture out of the way, we had a house FULL of at least 50 year old dust!! It was exhilarating! It was crazy! It was brave! It was sooo us! We have now started putting new gyprock sheets up and it won’t be long before the whole project is complete! I can’t wait!!

Check in for the ‘before’ and ‘after’ shots when it’s all finished! For now, here’s a sneak peek at the 90 cm of height that we are gaining throughout the house! Isn’t this fireplace going to look spectacular, when it’s all finished? Yes, it is!!!

It’s the old cornice that still needs to come down, but it WILL have a picture rail when it’s done! ?❤️️
