Why I love audiobooks – how Audible changed my life!

Let me begin by saying that this is NOT a sponsored post. I realise it might sound like it is, but I have just enjoyed Audible so much that I sound like an ad!

This post does contain affiliate links, which won’t cost you a thing to use, but will help me run this site! I only seek out affiliate programs for products I absolutely love and use and can honestly recommend!

I absolutely love reading!

I love the atmosphere of snuggling up on the couch, with cushions and a blanket, with a hot cup of tea, reading an interesting book! Add a crackling fireplace and that’s my idea of heaven! It’s honestly one of the happiest things I can think of doing, which is why Book Depository is my favourite online shop ever! I love that their books are reasonably priced and that they provide free shipping anywhere in the world!

How Audible changed my life

This utopian idea of reading is why I had resisted the trend of audiobooks for so long. I had friends and family tell me about the greatness of audiobooks, how much they love them and how many books they get to ‘read’ while doing other things, for at least 3 years now. It’s not the idea of audiobooks that put me off them, it was the fear of what I would miss out on if I listened to my books instead of reading them (you know; the couch and cushions and cups of tea!).

Last year I finally gave in. We were in the midst of renovations and while working late nights on the house, I turned to listening to some facebook lives of an amazing entrepreneurial woman from Poland (if you speak Polish, here’s her website!). From the facebook lives I moved onto her podcasts. When I ran out of those, I continued on to other podcasts, such as The Tim Ferris Show, The Purpose Show and Bulletproof Radio.

Now that I was used to listening to valuable content while renovating, plastering walls in silence felt like a waste of time. That’s when I remembered my brother raving about his Audible Membership and I decided to sign up for the free trial. And let me tell you, I have not looked back! The books I have had on my ‘to-read’ list for years are now being ‘read’. For example, a crime classic that I have never found the time to read: “And Then There Were None” by Agatha Christie.

So what is Audible Membership?

Audible offers a membership, where for a monthly subscription fee you get credits to purchase audiobook titles. I love that I could install the app on my phone as well as the tablet and they both sync to keep track of where I’m up to with the current book I’m listening to! I also love being able to download my audiobooks to the app for listening offline (which was especially handy when we were travelling Australia without consistent reception!). For many years I didn’t think audiobooks would be something I’d enjoy, but I am absolutely loving the flexibility that listening to books provides!

Don’t get me wrong, I still take time to sit down with a book for the atmosphere and for the joy of just sitting in silence and comfort to read. I especially love sitting down with a printed book during my Miracle Morning Routine. But I use Audible whenever I can, during long car trips, while cleaning or gardening… and I’ve even done it while grocery shopping! I still love reading books in the traditional way, but I’m reading twice as many books now that I also listen to them.

Click here to check out the free trial – you won’t regret it! If you find audiobooks aren’t your thing, you can cancel at any time.

But if you find out they ARE your thing, your life will never be the same – it will begin filling up with amazing stories, tear- jerking moments, mystical creatures, personal development, or any other book you have always wished you had the time to read!

Same as Nicole! I have just gotten into listening to podcasts. I have to listen while I’m working or driving or something, otherwise I lose focus very quickly. I think it’s because I have no physical pages to turn… maybe?

But I said I would get back to reading more again this year so I think I will give it another go.

Alright, you’ve convinced me! I love listening to podcasts and always wondered if I’d love audiobooks too. I love to read physical books, but think I’d enjoy being able to do other things while still enjoying a story or two.

I just have to say that I was experiencing similar feelings about choosing ebooks and audio books over my beloved physical copies. But, I’ve come to love Audible, also, and love listening to books with my daughters. It’s such a great way to bond. Thank you for this!

Yes, I too have listened to books with the kids and they’re loving audiobooks as well! We regularly travel long distances in the car and we’ve all loved having books playing in the car instead of music! 😊

I’ve tried audible before and struggled to stay focused. But, I think I’m going to give it another shot. Thanks for the inspiration!

I love audible and podcasts! Sometimes I just don’t have time to sit down and read. Listening to a book makes me feel SO PRODUCTIVE. 💕
