Healthy Eating: Homemade Bread

I am prioritising healthy eating for our family!

We have recently been quite busy, resulting in having a few too many convenience meals! We normally eat quite healthy, so I am on a mission to start us all eating well again! One of my first steps towards healthy eating: mastering homemade bread! It has been quite a journey, and I am nowhere near having mastered this task, but I have found a great recipe that worked for me, so I’d love to share it with you!

Here are two great reasons why it’s a good idea to bake your own bread:        

You’ll know what’s in it

Making your own bread, means cutting out the supermarket bread filled with sugar, preservatives, numbers, and God-knows-what-else! Do you know how many ingredients it takes to make a basic homemade bread? Four! Yes: FOUR! Flour, yeast, water and salt. Have you looked at the ingredient list on store bought bread recently?

Homemade bread is satiating

Don’t be afraid that you’ll be baking all day, every day, to supply enough bread for your family. Homemade bread is much more filling than the cheap supermarket alternatives! Not only does it have healthier ingredients, it takes much less volume of it to fill you. Win-win! It might take you a couple of weeks to figure out how many loaves works for your family, but it will be totally worth it!

I made my first ever bread a month ago, and it was quite a learning curve! It was not the most basic, four ingredients recipe, but a more fancy one from my auntie. It was tasty, but turned out flat. Next, I tried a white bread recipe, which looked more like bread should, but was very dense! Nonetheless my kids polished off both the loaves and loved them! Today I followed this recipe for Basic White Bread. Four ingredients and a little bit of melted butter. I didn’t sprinkle it with the poppy seeds… It still turned out delicious!!

What more encouragement do I need, than my kids eating a homemade bread and LOVING it? ❤️❤️❤️
