This year we have decided to go even more minimalist in our homeschool than we ever had before. We are working with mainly online curriculums, and to be honest – two months in – we are loving it! I will write up a post about the online curriculums we’re using another day, but today I want to share Artventure for homeschoolers with you because you might not have even known that online art classes for homeschoolers are a thing! And not only are they a thing – we just did a free trial of Artventure last week and we all loved it!

What is Artventure and how does it work?

Artventure is a library of video lessons for kids to learn to draw and paint. First you watch the video. Then the second time ’round you use the pause points and follow along step-by-step. Kids create awesome artworks all by themselves and build new drawing skills.

Artventure is an online art curriculum designed by our very own Aussie artist and art teacher Kirsty Shadiac. It is aimed at 5-12 year olds, though anyone can have fun with it – I certainly have! I promise you, once you’ve explored the Artventure website and signed up for the 2-day trial, you will absolutely love Kirsty’s gentle approach to teaching your kids drawing and art!

What I especially love is that there are lessons that can be incorporated in other areas of your homeschooling, for example, there are lessons on drawing your state’s emblem. Also, with the choices available, even the most apprehensive little artist will find something that will spark their interest and will make them want to give it a shot! For our Miss 7 it was the picture of the fox and the ducky.

“Young people who participate regularly in the arts are four times more likely to be recognised for academic achievement, to participate in a math and science fair or to win an award for writing an essay or poem than children who do not participate in the arts”.
